I wish I had a crazy baby naming story, but honestly, mine's as mainstream as it gets! My little boo came into this world in a big hurry, 1.5 months earlier than his predicted due date. Looking at him now, the overactive, energetic kid that he is- am sure he just wanted to get out and experience the world to the fullest before anyone else!
How did he get his name, Vedant? My husband and I have always been great planners. We planned the pregnancy, each baby purchase, each baby visit- everything. In our list of things to do in the second trimester was settling on a baby name. I knew I was having a boy ( call it mother's instinct) and the only name I liked was Vedant. My husband, on the other hand, was on the girl bandwagon and couldn't figure out one good name! A thousand awful options were on the table courtesy the extended family and everyone got into the frenzy. We knew we wanted to name our kid the minute he came into our world and not wait for a naming ceremony or any other tradition! We wanted him/her to have an identity right from their first second of existence.
After much back and forth, we settled on Vedant and Anushka for our little boo. I was also very firm on giving my child a purely Indian name and not the new-fangled crazy millennial ones. An identity that would speak of his/her family, a heritage and of the country. Vedant - the reader of the Vedas was just perfect. Short, sweet and elegant.
And finally, the moment arrived! 8th March 2017, at 5:30 pm, Vedant was born! My little boo was a preemie, but perfect in every way. I immediately named him in the operating room and that's it! That's my story! One year later, little Vedu is the best thing that has happened to us. I see intellect in his eyes, and I hope he reads the Vedas one day!
