From time immemorial, women have always wanted to look beautiful. Before we started splurging on expensive beauty products, things were simple and far more effective in the form of grandma’s recipes and secrets. Not only were they effective and affordable, they were also 100 percent safe and natural.

Check out 11 of grandma’s top beauty secrets - all found right in your kitchen!

    1. Lemon is the Best Cure for Acne

One of the common problems we face is that of acne. According to grandma,  the exfoliating and antibacterial properties of lemon is what keeps acne at bay. Mix equal quantities of mineral water and freshly squeezed lemon and apply on face using a clean cotton ball. Keep it on for ten minutes, wash it off with water and pat dry. Do this every day and you will see the results for yourself!

    2. Potatoes Reduce Dark Circles
Peel two chilled potatoes, grate them and extract the juice.  Dip a cotton ball in this juice and apply it around your eyes. Rinse with water after 10-15 minutes. The bleaching agents in potatoes will help lighten dark circles.

    3. Drink a Lot of Water

Make sure you consume around 8-12 glasses of water everyday.  Drinking plenty of water flushes the toxins and dirt that accumulate on the skin daily. It also improves cell growth and blood circulation to the skin, thus enhancing beauty.

    4. Don't forget to Moisturize

Grandma always used to say,"Never go to bed without moisturizing the face and the hands." This reflects the importance of moisturizing as one of the beauty secrets you should follow.

    5. Eat Lots of Fruits and Vegetables

One of the best ways to get glowing skin is to give your skin what it needs. Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables will give you the required dose of vitamins and minerals and cause your skin to glow.

    6. Cleanse and Tone your Skin
Use cold cream to clean the skin to remove dirt and grit. Follow it up with a rosewater toner. This should be done twice a day - after you are up in the morning and just before going to bed.

    7. Use Olive Oil in your Bath

Olive oil is the most natural product to safeguard your skin from damage, as well as keep it moisturized. The antioxidants in the oil shield skin from the ill-effects of pollution. Simply add some olive oil to your bath water.

    8. Massage Sea Salt on the Body

Remove toxins from the skin by massaging the skin with sea salt every day. This will also help you to relax and also give you radiant skin.

    9. Puffy Eyes? Go for Cucumber
Just freshly slice a couple of cucumber pieces and keep it on closed eyes. Remove after 10-15 minutes and see the puffiness vanish. This is a very effective grandma’s beauty secret.

    10. Vaseline is a Must-Have
Yes, you heard it right. Grandmas swear by the humble Vaseline. From chapped lips to dry skin and cracked heels to dull hands, there is nothing that Vaseline cannot treat.

    11. Keep Shea Butter Handy

Many grand daughters revealed that their grandmas always had either shea butter or cocoa butter handy in their cupboards. The instant and intense moisturizing properties of these natural products means that you can bid goodbye to dry and dull skin! Plus, they are multipurpose -  you can use either one as a lip balm, makeup remover or moisturizer.

Nothing beats the comfort of grandma's love. The same goes for the tips and tricks she shared with you - especially the simple yet effective beauty secrets she always followed for that lovely skin!
