    1. Sapodilla:

      Sapodilla/ Chikoo

      Sapodilla known as chikoo in India tops the list of favourite fruits among kids because it is a dose of sweetness. Chikoo contains sugar in abundance and boosts weight gain. It also aids in digestion and good for the respiratory system.
    2. Mangoes:

      Mangoes

    3. Papaya:

      Papaya

      Papaya is a great fruit and can is effective in treating weight problems in toddlers. Papaya is a good source of sugar and hence aids weight gain. Papaya can be mashed and given to babies.

We consulted Mrs Varsha Satyan, a lactation counsellor from Chennai,  who guided us about the 'serving' of the foods mentioned above and shared some useful insights on introducing foods to a baby, which are as follows:
    • 3-Day-Wait Rule: When introducing new foods to a baby, always follow the 3-day-wait rule. Don’t introduce new foods every other day, instead wait for 3 days. You can also observe if he shows any possible signs of indigestion or allergy.
    • Solids After Breastfeeding: When giving solids to your baby, she recommended to first breastfeed the baby and then feed solid foods after half an hour or so.
    • Retain the Natural Taste: Another thing when giving solids to your baby is to try retaining the natural taste of a food. Do not add sugar and salt to it as it will help a child understand what he likes.
    • Choice Differs: Lastly, what you must remember is that each and every child is unique and so are their choices. Some may want to have more than the recommended serving portion and it’s fine as long as they stay healthy.
