    Hair loss post delivery is a common problem faced by many women. The root cause of hair fall after delivery is hormonal changes compounded by stress, lack of sleep, and emotional turmoil of childbirth. Hair fall post delivery is experienced by almost all new moms and there is nothing to worry about as this hair fall problem resolves on its own in few months. However, in extreme cases, medical intervention may be required. If the problem is not worse, there are always some home remedies that assist in dealing with hair fall problem and breathe a new lease of life in your post-delivery hair!

    Causes of Hair Fall After Delivery


    On an average, an individual loses up to 100 strands of hair per day. There are two phases of hair growth - anagenthe growth phase and telogenthe resting phase. An increase in the estrogen levels during pregnancy extends the growing phase. Hair that would have normally shed do not fall during pregnancy, hence you have thick hair. However, postpartum, as the estrogen levels come back to normal and your hair enter the next phase and there is excessive hair loss. But you need not worry, as post-delivery you will have a lot to deal with. Hair fall post pregnancy is normal and does not continue for a long time. Hair fall problem generally subsides within 6 to 12 months of childbirth.

    Losing your beautiful, lustrous, and thick hair that you once took pride in will obviously be heartbreaking, but like always home remedies will come as a knight in shining armour in times of trouble. Try these home remedies for hair fall post delivery:
    1. Eggs

      Egg whites

      Eggs are rich in iron, protein, phosphorous, zinc, and selenium – all of which are essential for hair growth. Just mix one egg white with one teaspoon of olive oil (which is rich in vitamin E) and apply this to your scalp every day. This is an excellent home remedy for hair loss.

    2. Coriander Leaves

      Coriander leaves serve as an excellent natural remedy for hair loss. Make a thick paste of coriander leaves and apply it on your scalp, let it rest for some time, then wash it off.

    3. Fenugreek

      Fenugreek seeds

      Fenugreek is rich in vitamins that are required for healthy hair. Just create a paste using some water and apply it as a hair mask. This will not only help in treating hair loss but will also give your hair lustre and bounce. You can also mix it with Greek yoghurt and leave it in for 30 mins for added nourishment.

    4. False Daisy

      False daisy, popularly known as ‘bhringraj’, works wonders for hair fall problems. You must have heard a lot about the benefits of ‘bhringraj oil’ from your mother and grandmother, well, it’s high time you start using it. Using this herb helps restore the natural colour of hair and even promotes hair growth. Make a paste of ‘bhringraj’ leaves and apply it on to your scalp.

    5. Coconut Milk

      Grinding grated coconut will give you coconut milk, which is extremely nourishing to your hair and scalp! Regular usage will give your hair a new lease of life.

    6. Onion and Garlic

      With abundant sulphur content, both onion and garlic are extremely helpful in promoting healthy hair growth. Massage your scalp with onion juice, extracted by squeezing chopped onion, before washing it off. Additionally, boil garlic with coconut oil and apply it two-three times a week.

    7. Aloe Vera

      Aloe vera gel

      Aloe vera gel is used to treat dryness that causes hair loss. It is recommended that you directly apply it to your scalp. Leave in the gel for a few hours before washing it off.

    8. Camphor and Curd

      Camphor and curd help in tackling hair fall and thinning of hair. Mix camphor and curd in equal amounts, apply it on your scalp and leave it for two hours. Later wash it off.

    9. Hot Oil Massages

      Regular hot oil massages with essential oils like ginger root oil, lavender oil, rosemary oil, or peppermint oil also prevent hair loss and promote hair growth.

    10. Amla

      Amla is a versatile ingredient and can be used with honey or coconut oil to help combat hair loss. Boil dried amla with coconut oil till it becomes black and then apply it to your hair.

      Green tea

      Green tea is good for weight loss as well as for treating hair loss. Just brew two teabags of green tea in a cup of hot water and apply it to your hair once it cools. Wash it after an hour and repeat regularly.

      Hair fall could also be caused due to lack of nutrients in your body. Omega-3 fats promote hair growth. Flax seeds and dry fruits are an excellent source of omega-3 fats, hence adding these to your diet will prevent hair fall.

      Neem leaves

      Neem is considered to be the bitter boon and its antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, anti-diabetic, sedative, and antiseptic qualities are excellent for treating hair loss.  Wash your hair with neem water - made by boiling neem leaves in water till it becomes half.
